At ARC all of our team members have their own personal lived experience of mental and emotional challenges and journey of recovery. Whether Recovery Coaching or Support Coordination, we will draw on both our professional knowledge as well as personal experience to help get the most out of your NDIS plan and work towards your goals and aspirations.

Typically, Recovery Coaching offers more opportunity for face-to-face connection than Support Coordination. Recovery Coaches can also spend time with you getting out and about in the community.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does an NDIS recovery coach do?

A psychosocial recovery coach is someone who helps you with mental and emotional distress to achieve your unique needs and goals on your healing journey. They focus on the psychosocial aspects of your life, such as relationships, housing, employment, education, and community involvement.

This may involve working with you to identify your strengths, challenges, and resources, and creating a plan that includes strategies for improving self-care, building healthy relationships, and pursuing meaningful activities.

At ARC all our psychosocial recovery coaches have lived experience. They draw from their own life experiences and recovery to help you achieve your goals and improve your quality of life, while also promoting a sense of empowerment and self-belief.

2. What can you expect from your psychosocial recovery coach?
Your coach provides guidance and support in navigating the healthcare and social service systems, accessing community resources, and advocating for your needs and rights. Additionally, they offer emotional support, encouragement, and accountability throughout the recovery process.
3. What’s the difference between a recovery coach and a support coordinator?

Support coordinators and psychosocial recovery coaches have similar roles in helping people with mental and emotional distress to achieve their goals and improve their quality of life. However, there are some key differences between these two roles.

A support coordinator is responsible for coordinating and linking you to a range of services and resources in the community. This may include healthcare providers, social services, employment services, housing assistance, and other resources. The support coordinator works closely with you to identify your needs, develop a plan of care, and advocate for your rights and interests.

On the other hand, a psychosocial recovery coach focuses on helping people to develop the skills and resources they need to achieve their recovery goals. The coach works collaboratively with you to identify your needs and what may be getting in the way of them being met and then develops a recovery plan with you tailored to your unique needs. The coach provides ongoing support, encouragement, and guidance to help you implement the plan and make progress towards your goals.

At ARC we don’t see these two services as being separate, both our Support Coordinators and Recovery Coaches blend the two roles into one, helping you with all your necessary support services as well as focusing on what you want to achieve and how you would like to do that. Encouragement, guidance and support are something we provide with all our services because we are a fully lived experience team and use our experiences to draw on in order to support you more authentically.

4. How much does recovery coaching cost?
A recovery coach costs $93.34 an hour in the daytime during weekdays. Your NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator can give you more information on the cost.
5. How do I find an NDIS psychosocial recovery coach?

If you are looking for an NDIS psychosocial recovery coach, here are some steps you can take:

  1. Contact your NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC) – They can help you to identify and locate NDIS providers in your area who offer psychosocial recovery coaching services.
  2. Ask for referrals – You can ask your healthcare provider, mental health professional, or other trusted individuals for recommendations or referrals to a psychosocial recovery coach.
  3. Conduct online research – You can conduct online research to find NDIS providers who offer psychosocial recovery coaching services in your area. You can visit the provider’s website, read reviews, and contact them directly to inquire about their services.

Once you have identified a potential provider, it’s important to speak with them to determine if they are the right fit for you. You can ask about their qualifications, experience, approach to coaching, and any other questions you may have to help you make an informed decision.

6. Do I need a referral?
You do not need a referral if you choose to be seen privately by us or if you are NDIS self/plan managed, all you need to do is get in contact with us by your preferred means of contact.

Aspire Recovery Connection acknowledges Aboriginal people as the first Australians, traditional owners of South Australia, and respect their ongoing living and spiritual relationship with the land and sea.  We respect and celebrate the many Aboriginal peoples and lands across the state.

We also acknowledge that past government policies contributed to the marginalisation, disempowerment, breakdown of connection to country, removal of Aboriginal children from their family, loss of land and income, and loss of culture and language of Aboriginal South Australians.
