Trauma Informed Yoga

Trauma is not what happens to you, it’s what happens inside you as a result of what happened to you.” (Carpotta, 2020)

Talk therapy (counselling) alone doesn’t always work, especially when the nervous system is constantly in a fight, flight and/or freeze state of survival and still affected by trauma. This is where working somatic therapies and polyvagal practices safely and gently, gradually allows the body to start to heal.

According to leading experts such as Bessel van der Kolk, the key to healing is to reconnect with bodily sensations and to understand that the body holds onto trauma before it learns how to heal in a safe environment.

Kate is a qualified trauma informed yoga teacher and has been teaching over the last 15 years, and loves to bring her knowledge and lived experience towards developing tailored 1:1 Trauma informed yoga sessions for an individual’s specific needs.

These tailored 1:1 trauma informed yoga sessions can assist you to safely calm your overwhelmed nervous system to reduce the intensity of triggers and anxiety. Kate will safely and gently guide you with body-based techniques, education and compassion to help you experience more mindful and peaceful states within your body and mind.

Aspire Recovery Connection acknowledges Aboriginal people as the first Australians, traditional owners of South Australia, and respect their ongoing living and spiritual relationship with the land and sea.  We respect and celebrate the many Aboriginal peoples and lands across the state.

We also acknowledge that past government policies contributed to the marginalisation, disempowerment, breakdown of connection to country, removal of Aboriginal children from their family, loss of land and income, and loss of culture and language of Aboriginal South Australians.
